Islamic World Culture : Yaounde African Capital For 2022

Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute personal representative of the Head of State, President Paul Biya presided at the official launching of activities in Yaounde on June 30, 2022.

From now up to December 2022, Yaounde, Cameroon’s political capital will be the hub of a series of activities intended to valorise the city’s cultural and historical heritage, promote cultural tourism and consolidate unity, peace and harmonious living together in Cameroon. This is because Yaounde is capital of the Islamic Culture for the African Region for 2022.
The event is the outcome of the implementation of the resolution of the 9th Conference of Ministers of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Organisation (ISESCO) held from November 2-4, 2015 in Malta. It is a cultural event that holds within a year during which the cultural and historical heritage of the host city is valorised through activities that promote culture of the Islamic World. The event is a dream come true thanks to President Paul Biya’s efforts to promote dialogue between religions and civilisations, the Minister of Arts and Culture, Bidoung Mpkatt disclosed during the official launching ceremony at the Yaounde National Museum on June 30, 2022.  He equally said that the choice of Yaounde was the demonstration of the dynamics of the high impulse of the Head of State, President Paul Biya to enable arts and culture to be the veritable catalyst of unity, national integration, living together and the production of wealth, growth and employment. Key activities to take place in different sites in Yaounde include conferences, colloquiums, trainings, commemoration of arts and cultural days, accompanying of cultural festivals and musical concerts.
Owing to the importance of the event that is holding on the theme, “The Islamic World Culture and the consolidation of unity, peace and harmonious living together in Cameroon,” President Paul Biya instructed the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute as his personal representative who presided at the official launching ceremony.
