Senatorial Campaigns : Proximity Strategies Gaining Grounds

The objective is to touch base with Councillors and get maximum votes for their list.

As electoral campaign gains steam, political parties participating in the election are updating strategies to woo the electors towards voting their candidates into the Senate. Amongst the strategies adopted, the proximity approach is greatly gaining grounds. All ten political parties are making an effort to meet Regional and Municipal Councillors at every level, beginning from the regional and divisional levels, and right down to the Subdivisional and communal levels. Each of the parties in the race strives to touch base with Councillors to present their political manifesto. No party is taking chances as even those with less Councillors are meeting those of the opposite camps to canvass for their votes. 
The Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) which is competing in all ten regions has come up with a programme of meeting electors in Councils (Municipal and Regional Councils). Going by the party’s political manifesto presented to electors, their objective is to work for an even stronger Senate, with a view to completing decentralisation, guaranteeing an ever more dynamic local democracy and catalysing the socio-economic development of the Councils and regions, in accordance with the General Code of Regional and Local Authorities. Various regional and divisional delegation heads, as well as Section Presidents of the CPDM are meeting with electors with the objective of getting to the Senate in as many regions as possible through their votes. 
Front des democrats camerounais (FDC) is embarking on a “meet the Councillors and convince them tour” in the Centre Region. In a region of 10 Divisions, FDC only has few Councillors in Lekié, but have been meeting Councillors of their opponent (CPDM) to present their political ideology. The National President of the party, Denis Emilien Atangana has a political timetable of meeting up with Councillors in all ten divisions of the region.
