Ndop-Babessi-Kumbo Stretch of Ring Road: Work Near Completion

With 96.8 per cent of the work already done, the population are impatiently looking forward to completion

The Ndop- Babessi-Kumbo stretch is part of the overall, 357 km of the “Ring Road” project which is on the lips of virtually all inhabitants of the North West region as the project that inspires hope and prosperity. The 50.5 km stretch crosses Ngoketunjia and Bui Divisions with works that require the construction of untarred sections and reconstruction of degrading tarred sections. The SOGEA- SATOM Construction Company has been on the project since 2011 with 24 months of field work before works were suspended between July 2014 - February 2017. On the work site, the construction company sounds off with about 95 per cent of progress of work covered ahead of delivery expected by September 2017.
From the look of things, the only speed brake could be delays blamed on the expected destruction of property that stretch from River Bui in Kumbo Central up to the neigbourhood of Squares. Away from that, the scope of works under execution includes the construction of a 7 m wide carriage way with two 1m shoulders each, including a carriage way made up of 5 cm of laterite gravel for the base course, 20 cm of 0/31.5 crushed aggregates for the foundation course and 5 cm of bituminous concrete for the wearing course.

“Work on the Babessi –Kumbo stretch is near completion. It is about 96.80 per cent done and barely some 250m are left for work to be delivered and things are being sorted out for the compensation for property to be affected around the neighbourhood of squares in Kumbo town. The construction company has been on track and we are also expecting to carry out some supplementary works to give greater visibility to the stretch climbing up the Sop, Jakiri sub Division.”
