Discussions to finalise the document for the Universal Periodic Review began in Yaounde yesterday at the Ministry of Justice.
Experts from Parliament, public institutions, independent administrative structures, and civil society organisations as well as international partners working for the promotion and protection of human rights on October 31, 2017 began deliberations on finalising the draft report to be presented for the third cycle of the Universal Periodic Review, UPR, to the Human Rights Council. The report which is subject to validation, follows the same methodological pattern as the previous ones, that is, the collection of data from various public administrations and civil society organisations, followed by drafting and validation by a working group made up of Judicial and Legal Officers as well as Contract Officers working at the Department of Human Rights and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Justice. The objective of the report is to provide an inventory of methods used by the State to improve human rights situations in the country and the mechanisms adopted to handle the violation of such rights.
Opening deliberations at the validation workshop on behalf of the Minister of Justice and Keeper of State Seals, the Secretary General, Joseph Fonkwe Fongang, said the content of the report was gathered through credible information provided by necessary partners after a dialogue.
