2018 Presidential Election: Constitutional Council To Rule On 18 Petitions

Five complainants deposited appeals before the October 10 midnight deadline.
The Constitutional Council has received a total of 18 complaints regarding the conduct of the October 7 presidential election. The complaints were filed by three candidates taking part in the race to the Unity Palace and two others whose candidatures were rejected by ELECAM.
Maurice Kamto of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement is requesting the cancellation of votes in seven regions. He is asking the Council to annul elections in the Far North, North West, South West, East, South, Adamawa and North regions.
The law professor claims there were violations of some provisions of the Electoral Code and disregard for Akere Muna’s withdrawal from the race. SDF candidate, Joshua Osih filed for total cancellation of the election on grounds that provisions of the Constitution and Electoral Code were violated Another candidate, Cabral Libii of UNIVERS is complaining of irregularities in several polling stations across the national territory and demanding a total cancellation of the election.
