Ministry of Justice: FCFA 16 Billion For Consolidating The Rule Of Law

Harmonising and modernising legislation, access to justice, promotion of human rights, fight against prison overcrowding and corruption are principle areas for 2019.

 Improving penitentiary policy in the county, court activity, governance and institutional support of the justice subsector are the principle concerns of the Ministry of Justice for 2019, going by the presentation of the Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Laurent Esso before the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly on November 22, 2018. The Minister was defending a draft budget of FCFA 66.316 billion for the 2019 financial year before the Committee headed by Hon. Moutymbo Rosette Ayayi with Minister Jules Doret Ndongo representing the Vice Prime Minister, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with Parliament, Amadou Ali. The total amount indicates that the proposed budget for the Ministry of Justice has increased by FCFA 2.862 billion given that its financial allocation for 2018 stood at FCFA 63.454 billion. According to the Minister’s presentation, the proposed allocations shall be devoted to improving the judicial system in Cameroon through the continuation of ongoing projects and the functioning of courts and prisons.
