North West : Drastic Drop in PIB Execution

Members of the regional follow up committee for the execution of PIB projects in the North West, spent January 23, 2019, seizing up the level of execution of 2018 projects in the region. Some 492 projects were allocated for the region for 2018 out of which 293 were completely executed, 98 projects ongoing, and 101 projects not started. These statistics gave the region a total financial execution rate of 58.84% and a total physical execution rate of 51.92%.

The regional delegate of MINEPAT North West Dominic Yenai Asaah highlighted a number of challenges faced by stakeholders in the execution of projects, some of which include the late award of contracts, slow payments at the level of the regional treasury, delays by commercial banks to fund contractors, and above all the socio -political crisis rocking the region. It also emerged from the meeting that some divisions in the region performed better despite the ongoing crisis.
