Bamenda/Santa : 53rd youth day celebrated

Dampened by the shutdown of towns and threats by unidentified person's to frustrate youth day celebrations, North West governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique presided the 53rd youth day event at the Bamenda Commercial Avenue on February 11, 2019.
Security was tight when some Courageous students, CPDM political party youths and state agents filed out after defying threats by alleged separatists to frustrate the event in Bamenda and neighborhoods. The shutdown of the Bamenda metropolis since February 5th, 2019 did not help matters but encouragements and mobilization ahead of the event by North West governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique, inspired those who beat fear and marched past at the Bamenda Commercial Avenue. The clocks stroke 10:20 a.m. when the governor arrived the grand stand to set the pace.
It was indeed a rare moment for youths to showcase patriotism and love for country but the sociopolitical crisis rocking the region has not helped matters in recent years. That explains why some early morning gunshots in the neighborhoods spread fear ahead of the event in Bamenda. Shops were closed, taxis and commercial motorcycles were off the streets. Comewhatmay, Bamenda was part of the national day event. The singing of the national anthem by some students of the university of Bamenda, a replay of Biya's message to youths and a March past summed up brief youth day activities in Bamenda. The March past featured a few students of GBHS Bamendakwe,. CENAJES Bamenda, the university of Bamenda, CPDM youths etc.
Elsewhere, in the neighborhood of Santa subdivision, CPDM youths claimed the day's event presided by the D.O, Viang Mekala. It was also a moment for youths of the region to get inspiration from the president's message which stressed the government's commitment to continue to promote democracy, justice and prosperity in a nation that is unified in diversity.
