Success in 2019 Elections: ELECAM Defines Priorities

Elections Cameroon board members on March 15, 2019 adopted a roadmap to ensure the successful organisation of legislative, municipal and Regional Council elections this year.

Electoral Board members of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) during the institution’s first ordinary session for 2019 reviewed the conduct of the presidential and senatorial elections in 2018 and adopted a roadmap with key priority actions to be carried out to ensure the successful organisation of the three elections programmed for 2019.

Opening the session, the Electoral Board Chairperson, Enow Abrams Egbe said, in order to optimise the electoral material, he and the Director General of Elections, Erik Essoussè accompanied by technicians held talks with ELECAM biometric partner in Berlin Germany for the partner to review the terms of the agreement in view of obtaining high performing material.

Another key priority is for ELECAM to register at least 10 million voters before electors are called to the polls and increase and strengthen the rate of participation in elections. ELECAM equally plans to install a permanent concertation framework with the other electoral stakeholders, consolidate institutional cooperation, intensify the training and updating of the capacities of ELECAM staff, as well as increase awareness creation, education and information campaigns. ELECAM would also want to draw from the experiences shared in other countries to perfect the organisation of elections in the country following international standards.
