Ingredients of Sustainability

The topics treated at the Cairo workshop on the Role of the media in sustainable Development exposed clearly the ingredients of Developmental undertakings.
The Promotion of African relations, Economic integration, new media social networking, awareness against extremism and Empowerment of women in effect, highlighted areas of concern in sustainable development.
In these domains, we see for ourselves, the importance of education love of one’s country, duty-consciousness, security, political stability, sensitization and mobilization for effective participation in developmental projects.
All these involve human resources who should be equipped through quality education and professional training, so as to be effective in whatever is being undertaken for the benefit of fellow citizens.
In this light, one of the ingredients of sustainable Development, is availability of human resources that are assets and not liability to the nation. They should be citizens who are not only literate, but also educated about life and its demands, professionally trained to be effective patriotic, transparent, uncorrupted, hard-working and morally rigorous to shy off from societal ills of favourism, laziness, inertia and dishonesty which result in loss of time and material resources.
Besides these there is the need for a sane environment without which it is difficult, if not impossible to derive the best from human resources.
Consequently, security political stability and peace are crucial elements of sustainable development.
We need security to be productive and sustainable in our undertakings. For, material resources like factories, bakeries, school, road and, communication infrastructure cannot be safe when there are socio/political conflicts wrecking a community...
