Protection of the Lake Chad Basin : Inter-ministerial Committee Evaluates Situation

The environmental, geographical and security condition of the zone was examined on November 13, 2019 at the Ministry of External Relations for the adoption of adequate measures.

Safeguarding natural resources, water and land around and within the Lake Chad Basin for the benefit of humanity remains a priority for the four member countries (Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria) that share the surface area. Over the years, environmental, demographic and security reasons negatively affected the basin, causing its degradation, a situation which forced member countries to meet in Nigeria in June 2016 within the framework of the Regional Protection Dialogue on the Lake Chad Basin and discuss the protection of the zone. Recommendations were made and given the current stake of the situation in the basin, an inter-ministerial committee met at the Ministry of External Relations on November 13, 2019 to evaluate the resolutions issued during the second regional protection dialogue on the basin.
