Second Term : Classes Continue After Christmas Break

Despite the late arrival of some students, schools effectively began yesterday, January 6, 2020 in Yaounde and its environs.

School bells began ringing as early as 7:30 a.m. at most school premises yesterday January 6, 2020. This signalled the continuation of classes after the 2019 end-of-year festivities. The 2019/2020 second term of the academic year, which is generally known as a decisive one has begun in earnest with effective classes taking place in most schools. However, some pupils did not just arrive in school late yesterday, but showed up in unacceptable hairstyles.
It was a difficult morning yesterday January 6, 2020 for Lili, a nursery school pupil in Yaounde. At 6:30 a.m. Lili was still in bed in spite of several attempts by her mother to ensure that she wakes up and prepares for school. Many other pupils like Lili found it difficult to wake up from bed. Whatever the case, a majority of pupils and students confirmed to have sluggishly woke up to prepare for school resumption. By 7:00 a.m. the usual hustling was seen along major roads leading to school premises. While parents moved along or dropped off kindergartens in their different classrooms, those in primary and secondary schools could be seen taking motorbike, cabs or other means to their different classrooms. The usual traffic was witnessed around school premises. This was particular around the Saint Benoit Secondary School at Mvolye, where most vehicle owners took close to 30 minutes to drive across the school. Classes effectively began at 7:30 a.m. in most schools in Yaounde. At the Government Bilingual Practising High School (GBPHS) in Yaounde, the administrative staff and student body were on time at 7:30 to begin, with the general assembly and the hoisting of the flag. The Principal of the school, Sama Robert Eko, used the occasion to welcome the students after the Christmas break and spelled out the conduct expected from them. Students were urged to be polite towards each other, disciplined, hard working and ensure that their school campus is clean.
