“We Base Training on Quality Assurance, Principles that Make for an Anglo-Saxon Styled University”

Of recent there has been the recruitment of 2000 lecturers to all State universities, what has been the quota of The University of Bamenda?

We have just finished a meeting of the Council of The University of Bamenda. Among other things after discussing the budget for the 2020 year, we had the opportunity to thank the Head of State for the recruitment of 166 new staff for The University of Bamenda. This is considerable, considering that there was a crying need for teachers in many disciplines. This will enable us to satisfy the acute demand that existed because these 166 lecturers are distributed across many faculties and departments of the University, so that virtually every faculty, school and college now has additional staff which will enable them be in a position to execute the programmes. We are looking forward to the second round of recruitment which is expected to start soon. And we are expecting that we will have another batch of assistant lecturers and lecturers that will enable us to really begin to ensure that the graduates of our programmes are properly groomed to satisfy the needs of the job market. Also, so that the programmes that we have will ensure quality and excellence thus ensuring that our graduates make a difference in their contributions to national development and to the emergence agenda.

In your view, does the creation of The University of Bamenda actually reflect the promotion of the Anglophone culture?

Definitely! Yes. The University was charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the system of education satisfies or is based on the Anglophone or English-speaking system, what is referred to as the Anglo-Saxon system. We do know that this has been experimented in Cameroon already in The University of Buea, and therefore The University of Bamenda had no difficulty adjusting to the essential character of the Anglo-Saxon system of education.
