Regional Solidarity

Though the ongoing wave of coronavirus pandemic has for now spared Lesotho with no case registered yet, the political climate has left the country divided. From accusation of the Prime Minister’s wife Maesaiah Thabane of killing her rival, Lipolelo Thabane, the suspicion of the Prime Minister, Thomas Thabane of complicity in the murder to the failed attempt to dissolve the parliament, the country has witnessed many ugly scenes that have not only made headline news, but led to external mediation. 
Thus, after several weeks of wrangling that saw the military on the streets and arrests of several top police officers, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who is also the current President of the African Union (AU) has stepped in. After sending envoys to the capital Maseru in a show of regional solidarity, things seem to be back on the rail. The coalition government of the Kingdom of Lesotho is committed to implement the process or the arrangements for the dignified, graceful and secure retirement of the Right Honorable Prime Minister Thomas Thabane....
