Need To Stay Alert

The decision by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, on the instructions of the Head of State to announce 19 accompanying measures to reduce the burden of COVID-19 restrictions in the country was welcomed in several quarters. Most of those who came out to appreciate the reopening of bars and leisure spots evidently did so for the wrong reasons. They willing ignored the fact that the Prime Minister also reminded them to keep social distancing, continue wearing face masks as an obligation and respect other barrier measures. Since bars reopened their doors after 6 PM, people could be heard making derogatory comments as if to say the new Coronavirus pandemic is now a thing of the past. Yet, there are visible facts across the world about the disease for everyone to see. People have died in Developed countries in thousands as a result of the pandemic. Countries with better healthcare systems and infrastructure have suffered some of the worse deaths in recent history. It would be a mistake for anyone to take such fatalities for granted.

Staying on the alert by ensuring that the prescribed health tips are respected will not be a waste of time. There is no point taking chances only to be infected or killed when simple hygiene practices like the washing of hands with running water and soap, the wearing of face mask, keeping social distancing, and the use of hand sanitizer could protect people.
The understanding this far is that the sacrifices made by the entire country as required by government and the World Health Organisation since the 5 March 2020 when the first case of the disease was ...
