Combating Cyber Criminality : Education Community Strengthened

A three-day ANTIC training seminar in Bamenda delivered best practices to stay safe from cybercrimes in schools and Universities.

The stakes are high with facts to the effect that in barely three years since 2019, the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC), identified 4,242 fake Facebook accounts used by unscrupulous individuals to scam uninformed citizens and also received and treated some 2,050 complaints relating to scamming and phishing. It is against this backdrop that ANTIC experts on the subject were in Bamenda from October 27-29, 2021 with lessons on how to stay safe in opportunities offered by the digital economy and literacy.
Inspired by their mission to promote the safe use of ICTs and securing the national cyberspace; the ANTIC team strengthened teachers and lecturers with knowledge on cybersecurity to help matters against cyber criminality. It was all about best practices to enhance the skills of the education stakeholders, charged with teaching youths Information and Communications Technologies and instilling in them; a cyber-security culture. Participants took home lessons on the general concepts of cybercrime, privacy and data protection, cyber prevention, digital Forensics and cybercrime investigation, legal framework and human rights, merits of ICTs, e-learning, conference calls etc.
