DR Congo : Calm Returns In Bukavu

Administrative and commercial activities have returned to normal after armed men attacked the town of Bukavu, capital of South Kivu Province. The overnight clashes that began on Wednesday November 2, 2021 with heavy gunfire has resulted in the killing of 11 people and left the over one million residents in fear. On the main streets of the city, vendors are reported to be rushing up and down trying to make up for the delay of the days lost.  “We live on our daily business. It was difficult for me to sit around all day with my arms folded, so I decided to come and open my business. Unfortunately there are no clients, apparently they are still traumatized but the main thing is that calm has returned, and I can still do my activities.” Mireille Ushindi, owner of a small restaurant explains.
According to the Commander of the 33rd military region, Brigadier General Bob Ngoie Kilubi, the armed group targeted military and police stations to loot arms and release some of its members detained in the area. Brigadier General Ngoie Kilubi added that, more than 40 of them came through Brasserie, Nyamugo, and other corners, chanting and saying they have come to liberate the country,” the senior military officer told a local reporter of radio Maendeleo.
