Japoma Pitch : Minor Gamages Under Repairs

The pitch which suffered minor rips during round one encounters will host Thursday, January 20, 2022, matches.

The President of the AFCON Local Organising Committee Douala Pool, Governor Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua, has debunked allegations that the Japoma pitch has suffered damages that have left tread-marks inches deep after the first and second day matches.
He was speaking after visiting the stadium on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, as a part of regular inspection visit and following social media allegations that major damages have been caused to the football pitch, which prompted the Algerians to say they will not play their last of round one matches at the stadium.
“After a keen observation of the pitch, I am satisfied with the state. The match between Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday, January 20, 2022, will be played on the pitch. There are no major damages except that the pitch has to be repaired after a number of matches have been played on it. Furthermore, repair of the minor damages of the affected sections is going on by the company, Gregory, which will be complete before day three matches on Thursday. It is normal that after some matches the pitch should suffer some break ups, and we have on ground a company working to restore the pitch.” These are the words of the President of the AFCON Local Organising Committee Douala Pool, Governor Ivaha Diboua, who felt disappointed about the social media news after his guided tour of the stadium.
Day one and day two matches ripped up portions of the pitch which is normal during any football match
