Community Health Programmes: Coordination Groups Launch Activities

After the development of the first National Strategic Plan for Community Health in the country, members of the technical group in charge of coordinating Community-Directed Inventions met on, February 22, 2022 during their quarterly meeting to chart the way forward in ensuring that healthcare within communities is properly coordinated and is in coherence with the overall healthcare programme of the country. The meeting, co-organized by the Ministry of Public Health and Impact Santé Afrique (ISA) was chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Health, Professor Louis Richard Ndjock.
Prof Ndjock said there was need for such a meeting in order to improve the coordination of different interventions within community health programmes. He explained that for more than 10 years, the government has been implementing Community Directed Interventions with objectives to involve the beneficiaries in the resolution of their health problems. Noting that insufficient coordination has been identified as one of the main bottlenecks to the effective implementation of these interventions, the Secretary General urged members of the coordination group to effectively build a platform that will ensure effectiveness to services offered within all communities in the country. The representative of ISA, Patricia Pouhe, a Community Health Advocacy Officer, said they advocate in changing the living conditions of community health workers who are the key elements involved in the community health programme in the country. Through the launching of the activities of the technical group, Patricia Pouche hopes that the living conditions of community health workers will be improved upon to ensure success in all community health programmes.
