West : Mayors Drilled On Decentralization

A one-day inter-regional workshop on decentralization and encouraging better local governance, organized by the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development(Minepat) held in Bafoussam on, 18, February, 2022. The workshop which brought together participants, comprising, mayors, project authorities, divisional and regional delegates involved in the decentralization process from the Northwest and West regions, was aimed at reasserting the need   for programming national development policies for medium and long term prospects. That is by bringing development closer to the needs of the communities and setting in place conditions that more active role can be played by civil society organizations, NGOs, and ordinary people in local development process.
Addressing participants at the opening, Mrs. Mbassa Ayissi Esther, Chief of service in charge of local development in MINEPAT, who represented the Minister, said decentralization, which goes with the transfer of competences to local elected authorities is to enable them play an active role in pubic local affairs. She said her ministry has embarked on a nationwide training and mobilization of locally elected authorities to better use their fiscal resources for well suited services for their population,...
