Humanitarian Activity : US Ambassador Visit Storage facility

The tour to the warehouses in the Douala ports on Wednesday, April 13 gave him first-hand information on how the foodstuff are stored.

The United States Ambassador to Cameroon, Christopher John Lamora has visited the 33.000 MT two bonded warehouses of the World Food Programme – WFP in the Douala Ports this April 13, 2022. The United States of America through its bureau for Humanitarian Assistance is the WFP’s largest donor in Cameroon. As a result, the US Ambassador was in Douala to appreciate the operations of the warehouse and to get first-hand information on the content of the warehouse as well as safety and security measures of the facilities. The US ambassador Christopher J. Lamora appreciated the work of the WFP to ensure that the food is well stored and donated at the right time to the targeted population. He said the US government is the largest bilateral donor of humanitarian assistance to Cameroon in the health sector, provision of food aid, and many others. Specifically, he went on, with the WFP, during this 2022 academic year have donated 34 million US dollars (more than 20,5 billion CFA francs) as assistance both financially and in-kind to support humanitarian activities.
For the Country Director of the WFP Cameroon Wanja Kaaria, the Douala corridor is also transit to various countries in the sub-region as Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Nigeria, the Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo. She said the findings are critical in supporting the government of Cameroon in its efforts to fight against hunger.
