Douala City Council : 166 New Recruits to Fight Urban Disorder

For the first time Municipal Police are subjected to training facilitated by officers of the security corps, to reduce friction with the population.

In a bid to fight urban disorder in Douala, 166 more recruits have been added to the 450 existing Municipal Police of Douala City Council. The goal according to Mayor Roger Mbassa Dine of Douala City Council (DCC) is to have 100 agents of the Municipal Police in each of the six municipal councils. He underscored while opening a three-month training of the new personnel on April 18, 2022 at the Bepanda multipurpose center, that the recruitment was sanctioned by a shortage of personnel to ensure the protection of the population and their properties. The young and dynamic recruits were exhorted to be punctual, assiduous and disciplined in the discharge of their functions, as well as change attitude and aptitude to show a positive image of the Municipal Police.
As regards their choice of the young men and women, the City Mayor said they have in place a transparent process in the selection of candidates which engages the services of an independent firm. The training according to the Mayor Mbassa Dine is to help reduce incidents of misunderstanding that have sometimes cropped up between Municipal Police and population. The training which is facilitated by public security officers takes place in two phases all to equip the new recruits to render quality services, master the tool of their duty, notably the operational text.
