Malaria Control : Fourth Bed Nets Distribution Campaign Underway

Preparations are intensifying at the Ministry of Public Health to ensure a proper organisation of the 4th nationwide campaign to distribute long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (LLINs) for the protection against malaria. During the second preparatory meeting yesterday May 16, 2022, members of the Coordination Unit of the Global Funds and Partners Grants for the Fight Against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, resolved that all measures will be taken to ensure an effective start of the first phase of the campaign which is previewed for the first week of June, 2022. Chairing the meeting on behalf of the Minister of Public Health was the Inspector General of Medical and Paramedical Services at the Minister of Public Health, Dr Yves Mathieu Zoa Nnanga. 
The Permanent Secretary of the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), Dr Dorothy Achu revealed that special about the 4th campaign to distribute treated bed nets is the type of nets that will be distributed to the population. She said the nets will be more effective than the ones distributed during other campaigns because they have been treated with new insecticides that are effective against the resistant vectors in the country. Dr Achu explained that there are two different types of new nets that will be distributed. There is the Long-Lasting Insecticides Treated Nets which contains an extra ingredient to make the vector susceptible to the insecticide. The second type will be the one treated with two different insecticides to make it more effective against the malaria resistance vector.
