Armed Forces : Love For Fatherland

The interest in serving the country with honour and loyalty crowns reasons why young citizens get into the military.

Competitive entrance examinations into the defence and security forces is one those sectors that annually registers the highest number of candidates. Interestingly, the number of candidates keeps increasing as the years go by. Amongst the various reasons advanced for those who take these exams and those already serving as officers in different corps of the military are patriotism and the love for defending the nation. The motto of defence forces which is “Honour and Fidelity,” most of them note, best captures that reason for getting or wanting to get recruited into the military. 
To them, safeguarding the territorial integrity of the country remains paramount as they see the nation as one and should be cherished as such. This love for the Fatherland, they further explain, does not only end in land border protection, but spans to other domains. For example, the Military Engineering Corps, best known as “Genie Militaire,” carries out construction works and performs other duties directly related to the security of persons and property. This corps of the military or example is known for tarring roads, constructing bridges, taps and classrooms in conflict-torn zones. A case in point is in the North West, South West and Far North Regions of the country which as a result of the security situation have a low achievement rate in te’rms of development. The officers argue that a section of the country cannot be abandoned for whatever reason.
