The Governor of the Centre Region, Naseri Paul Bea on June 7, 2022 called on the population to respect the rights of children.
Alongside some students in Yaounde, the Governor of the Centre Region, Naseri Paul Bea, waves a red flag which reads “Stop Violence in the School Milieu.” This was during an event on June 7, 2022, to launch the 32nd edition of the Day of the African Child (DAC) in the Centre Region. The day will be commemorated on June 16, 2022 under the theme, “Eliminating Harmful Practices Affecting Children: Progress on Policy & Practice since 2013.”
The Governor of the Centre Region called on parents and other members in the community to know that children have rights and these rights need to be protected. If not, he added, “We will be building a future community of people shaped by acts of violence.” The Governor used the event to hand anti-violence materials to young parliamentarians who will in turn use them to sensitise their peers.
A representative from the Sightsavers Organisation, Cliford Boma, said the Day is aimed at eliminating stereotype beliefs and discriminatory practices toward children living with disabilities. He said his organisation is working with the Ministry of Social Affairs to change the mindset of the population on negative practices on certain children. Cliford Boma said it is the responsibility of everybody to ensure that each child is protected against all ills. He revealed that Sighsavers is developing a new programme to ensure that children are aware of their rights and can express themselves through various platforms.
