50th Anniversary of World Environment Day : Douala Plant Trees

This was during activities to commemorate World Environment Day celebrated every June 5.

The population of the littoral region has been called upon to carry out activities that will help in the protection of the environment. This was during a ceremony to end weeklong activities to celebrate the world environment day on June 8. This year’s event which marks 50 years was celebrated under the theme “Only one Earth”. World Environment Day is commemorated every June 5, to raise awareness about the impact of human beings on the planet and biodiversity. It seeks to make the world reflect on the importance of global biodiversity.
According to the Secretary General to the Littoral Governor’s office Aboubakary Haman Tchiouto they have chosen this edition to plant trees within some parts of Douala as a means to educate the population on what to do so to protect the environment. He added that it was high time the population take the necessary actions to help in the conservation of biodiversity. He was categorical that if the environment is polluted the population can’t be healthy as such he called on all to avoid activities that will pollute the environment.
