World Blood Donor Day : Sensitisation Activities Ongoing Nationwide

A fitness walk to call on the population to save lives by donating their blood took place over the weekend in Yaounde.

Staff of the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) and members of the Association of Blood Donors, have called on the population of Yaounde and its environs to give a little of their blood to save lives. This was during a fitness walk that took place on Saturday June 11, 2022 in Yaounde. From the Ministry of Public Health, passing through the Central Post Office Junction, to the May 20th Avenue and the Yaounde Central Hospital to the Messa neighbourhood and the Mokolo Market, messages such as: “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”, “Giving your blood is an act of solidarity.” “Give just a little; give it now, save lives.” “We have power to save lives,” were brandished. 
Heading the team of the fitness walk was the Chairperson of the Management Committee of the National Blood Transfusion Service, Professor Ekoe Tetanye, the Director General of the National Blood Transfusion Service, Professor Dora Mbanya and the Deputy Director General of the NBTS, Maina Djoulde. Prof. Ekoe Tetanye said they are out to convince goodwill people who are still hidden within the population and willing to donate their blood to save others. He said it is important for people to know that blood donation is an act of love towards a brother or sister. He added that, the population need to know that free blood donation is a civic act, a humanitarian gesture which will save a life.
