Cameroon-AIO : Revised Headquarters Agreement Signed

Minister Mbella Mbella signed for Cameroon with the President of AIO, Smart Samuel Tomitope doing same for his institution.

A revised headquarters agreement was on June 10, 2022 signed between Cameroon and the African Insurance Organisation (AIO). External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella signed on behalf of the government of Cameroon while the President of AIO, Smart Samuel Tomitope did same for his institution. In attendance was the Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze, other government officials and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Paul Patrick Biffot, who is Gabonese Ambassador to Cameroon among other members of the diplomatic corps. 
Minister Mbella Mbella in his preliminary statement said the initial accord between the two parties became obsolete as concerns international regulations for institutions of such category like the AIO, therefore warranting a revised headquarters agreement. The agreement which falls within the new dynamics of Cameroon of becoming an emerging economy by 2035, the Minister stated, will permit AIO to benefit from all legal advantages stated by law. “The insurance industry is an important development driver for the development of Cameroon in particular and Africa in general. The AIO through its missions contributes in the promotion of strategy towards a positive image of insurance institutions in Africa,” the Minister stated. Minister Mbella Mbella added that the Pan-African institution has been committed in promoting social insurance programmes in Cameroon and Africa. He also used the opportunity to express the gratitude of the government of Cameroon to the institution for contributing to capacity training and awards which aim at promoting insurance programmes.
