African Senior Athletics Championships : Cameroon Grabs Three Medals

Over 600 athletes from across the continent participated in the biggest continental rendezvous in athletics that ended in Mauritius Island on June 12, 2022.

The 22nd edition of the African Senior Athletics Championship ended at the Cote d’Or National Sports Complex in Saint Pierre, Mauritius on Sunday June 12, 2022. Over 600 athletes from across the continent participated in the biggest continental rendezvous in athletics. For five days, lovers of athletics in the world in general and Africa in particular watched young athletes showcase their talents. Cameroon was represented in the competition by ten athletes. The Cameroonian flagbearers put up an honourable performance in the competition. 
In all, Cameroon bagged home three medals; two silver and one bronze. Emmanuel Esseme Alobwede won silver in the men’s 200m. He finished the race in 20”61. In the women’s discus throw, Nora Monie Atim won silver after throwing a distance of 54.44m. After finishing on the eighth position in the long jump, Kossenda Rey Veronique won bronze in the triple jump. She jumped a distance of 13m35. The disappointment was during the women’s 400m where Linda Angounou finished on the fourth spot with a performance of 58.97. In the men’s 100m Emmanuel Esseme finished on the fifth position but had a good performance of 10.6. In the women’s 800m heptathlon Mafogang Adel was the winner. In the combined disciplines during the first day of the competition, Mafogang won two out of three disciplines of the day.
