Group A : Uncertainty Still Looms

While Astres have already booked their place for the Playoffs, the battle is still real for Canon, Union and Apejes for the second spot. Relegation threatened clubs have a fierce tussle ahead.

In Group A, the question of the two teams that will take part in the playoffs, those relegated and those to play the play down of the MTN Elite One Championship has not been completely answered. This is given that some teams have two matches, others three and four left to play for the first phase to end. Nonetheless, from the current standings, one can start forecasting what the end may look like.

Playoffs
Les Astres of Douala with 47 points and three playing days left have already booked their spot for the Playoffs. This is given that they are nine points above their direct followers, Canon Sportif of Yaounde (38 points) with equal number of matches left at press time. Uncertainty still looms for which other team will join Astres in the playoffs. The battle is fierce between Canon Yaounde, Union of Douala and Apejes of Mfou that occupy the second, third and fourth places on the classification table respectively. Canon (38 points) stands a better chance of moving to the playoffs given that they have three matches left, meanwhile, their direct followers Union (35 points), have just two matches left. Apejes (35 points) is not equally completely out of the race but have slim chances of making major changes on the table because they have just two matches left. To a lesser extent, Djiko (34 points) may still have hopes pending their results and those of their superiors. Everything is not lost yet for the likes of Colombe and AS Fortuna.

Play Down
Nothing is certain yet in group A as concerns the teams that will move down to Elite Two. At the time of this report, Tonnere Kalara Club (TKC) and Racing of Bafoussam were in the relegation zone (12th and 13th respectively). Meanwhile, Panthère of Nde is 11th with 20 points and if the classification does not change at the end, they may have to play the play down match against Yafoot in Group B. Even though Racing have four matches left, there are high chances that they may remain in the relegation zone. This is given that they have nine points, seven below their direct followers TKC, with three matches left. Nonetheless, the battle is real between TKC and Panthère with 16 and 20 points respectively.  They both have three matches left and within this period, anything can happen. Things will only concretise in this group as the remaining matches are progressively played.
