World Refugee Day : Multidimensional Partnership Appreciated

Activities commemorating the 22rd edition of the day were held in the Ministry of External Relations on June 21, 2022.

The 22rd edition of the World Refugee Day has been commemorated in Cameroon at the Ministry of External Relations under the theme, “Whoever. Wherever. Whenever. Everyone has the right to seek safety.” The Secretary General of the Ministry, Chinmoun Oumarou, on behalf of the Minister, Mbella Mbella, presided at events marking the commemoration of the Day in the presence of Heads of Diplomatic Missions, Consular Posts and International Organisations accredited to Cameroon and some refugees on June 21, 2022. The multifaceted support to refugees offered by government, regional and international partners was appreciated by various stakeholders. 
In the speech of the Secretary General, he noted that the World Refugee Day is being commemorated just after Cameroon organised the Regional Ministerial Conference on Solutions to Forced Displacements due to the Crisis in the Central African Republic (CAR) from April 25 to 27, 2022. Cameroon, he added, under the leadership of President Paul Biya, has carried out concrete actions to guarantee the safety and wellbeing of refugees hosted by Cameroon. The 2005 law relating to the status of refugees and the 2011 presidential decree relating to the organisation and functioning of structures that manage the status of refugees in Cameroon, Chinmoun Oumarou noted, are some of the legal instruments that ensure an accessible and equitable treatment of refugees. He further stated that a by-annual multi-actor dialogue has been instituted, which seeks at including refugees, their follow-up and management in Cameroon. “There would be no guarantee for effective security for asylum seekers without due consideration for the various host communities,” he added.
