Douala : Public Enjoys Free Musical Concerts

Entertainment-hungry residents of Douala gave Boulevard de la Liberte in Akwa an explosive vitality in the evening of June 21, 2022.

Residents of Douala joyfully traded the silence of their neighbourhoods to some entertaining sounds of drums and bits that sporadically rose over the city from 6pm, continuing till near dawn on June 21, 2022. The occasion was the celebration of the long-awaited World Music Day that witnessed the effective holding of several live concerts of all musical genres that attracted an enthusiastic participation of all classes of people.
The musical event that was staged on makeshift platforms mounted in the open in football fields, along roads and road junctions captured the interest of even those who usually go nightclubbing in nightclubs and cabarets.  Pleasure and entertainment seekers made use of the free-for-all and free-of-charge open air concerts as an opportunity to cut costs of hobnobbing and eliminate stress. The massive turnout in Akwa, Parc des princes and in other areas throughout five of the six Subdivisions of Douala clearly shows that there is a renewed zeal for the event especially after two years of Covid-19 interruption.
The French Institute of Cameroon (IFC) in Douala alone threw a six-day musical celebration beginning from June 16-21, 2022, bringing together music artistes of some popular genres such as Makossa, Bitkussi, Asiko, choir, and traditional bits, as well as a general animation by a team of Orange Cameroun budding artistes under the theme, “Music in liberty.” In the evening of June 21, 2022, entertainment-hungry residents of Douala gave Boulevard de la Liberte an explosive vitality as it has never been witnessed in the past editions.
