Tanzania : Training Of Future African Leaders Afoot

Aspiring African Political Leaders from six southern African countries have begun receiving courses at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School in Dar-es-Salam (Tanzania). The 120 aspiring leaders that come from South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique, Angola, Zimbabwe and Namibia, are the first batch of the academy that was inaugurated on February 22, 2022 by the country’s President, Samia Suluhu Hassan in the presence of diplomates, leaders of six southern Africa parties, namely; CCM, ANC, FRELIMO, SWAPO, MPLA, ZANU-PF and other dignitaries. Though the course outline has not been made public, the first phase of the academic year that began in mid-June 2022 is expected to round- off at the end of the year. 
The school which is co-sponsored by China is the first Political Leaders Academy in the African continent. Before Tanzania, China had also supported another school of the same kind, set up by the African National Congress (ANC), in South Africa in 2014, but it was only a national centre for the training of local leaders, though not just any one was admitted. In this local centre, training focused on how to deal with the opposition, maintain social peace and how Chinese-style governance can help economic development in the country.
