Professional Football Championship : Lessons Of Hope-raising Season


The 2021-2022 national football championship has come and gone. Coton Sport of Garoua emerged as champions of the 2022 top tier in Cameroon at the end of the play offs in Garoua. The cotton weavers lifted their 17th championship title after edging Eding Sport of Lekié at the final after post-match penalties. Two teams; Gazelle FA of Garoua and Aigle Royal of Menoua have been promoted to the Elite One championship while five teams from Elite One have been relegated to the Elite Two championship. They are OFTA, Yafoot, New Stars, TKC Yaounde and Racing of Bafoussam.
The 2021-2022 football season in Cameroon leaves much to write home about. First of all, the season was far from the ordinary given the stakes at the time. A new format for the Elite One championship was introduced to find solutions to determine the champion of Cameroon in order to meet the deadline set by CAF. According to the new format, the championship was played in two sub groups of 13 and 12 clubs respectively. The matches were played in the cities of Yaounde, Douala, Bafoussam and Limbe. 
What is worthy of note is the respect of the calendar put in place despite arm-twisting of some club presidents who asked for a review of the programming of matches. Also, the 2021-2022...
