In order to safeguard the legacy of the former Prime Minister of Cameroon, Simon Achidi Achu, who journeyed into eternity on May 4, 2021, a foundation has been created in his memory. Known as the Achidi Achu Foundation, it was launched on July 9, 2022 in Yaounde and has as Chairperson, Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi, General Manager of CAMTEL. A memorial service was offered in honour of the deceased prior to the launching of the foundation, in the presence of government officials, members of Parliament, traditional rulers, elite of the North West and South West Regions, and members of the diplomatic corps.
A leaflet on the foundation indicates that it will amongst other things offer assistance to the physically challenged, fight against poverty and rural exodus through the promotion of agriculture, encourage education and excellence through small scholarship schemes, and promote cultural and traditional values as a catalyst to peace and unity. The Foundation has a website (www.achidiachufoundation.com) which is very simple in outlook and contains necessary contacts as well as other social media platforms of the Foundation.
In a statement from the Chairperson of the Foundation, Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi, she notes that the initiative aims at making sure that the legacy of a great statesman lives on. "His vision and actions were serving the community. We want to keep this vision alive by continuing to do what he always did," she stated. She also used the opportunity to thank the Head of State for the support given to the entire family as well as that of the First Lady manifested by the presence of CERAC ladies at the memorial service and launching of the Foundation.
