Cameroon-Nigeria : Fans Disappointed In Yaounde

With the absence of a fan zone in the city centre, many Yaounde inhabitants watched the match in drinking spots and wore gloomy faces after the defeat.


It was a rather gloomy atmosphere in Yaounde yesterday July 14, 2022. Yaounde inhabitants will live to remember the day the Indomitable Lionesses were booted out of the 14th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The Lionesses were beaten 1-0 by the Super Flacons of Nigeria at the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca. The grief on their faces was the fact that not only has Cameroon been eliminated but they have failed to qualify for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023. 
Prior to the match, many football lovers left their offices and business places early enough to go home and watch the quarterfinals match. Business activities were grounded to a halt to watch the match. With the absence of a fan zone in the city centre many shop owners watched the match in their shops. In almost all the neighbourhoods many bars and off licences were crowded by fans who were anxious to see their darling team win. At the Nkoldongo neighbourhood, hundreds of fans were seen in every drinking spot watching the encounter. Taxi drivers...
