Zambia-South Africa : Banyana Banyana Books Final Ticket

They beat the Copper Queens 1-0 yesterday July 18, 2022 in Casablanca to play the final for fifth time.

The Banyana Banyana of South Africa was the first team to make it to the final of the ongoing 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. They made their way into their fifth final qualification after their 1-0 win over the Copper Queens of Zambia in the semi-final game played yesterday July 18, 2022 at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca. Linda Maserame Motlhalo took a successful penalty in additional time that gave her side victory. Motlhalo had no reason not to concretise the penalty that was given thanks to a fault on SC Braga’s forward, Jermaine Seoposenwe less than two minutes to the end of regular playtime.
Some did not see South Africa carrying the day in this encounter given that the Copper Queens were very proficient upfront especially in the first half. Team captain Grace Chanda and Siomala Mapepa had several opportunities to open scores but all failed to concretise. The Banyana Banyana had a flat superior ball possession but less dangerous upfront. They had difficulties in understanding the play style of the Zambians but their mobility and inability to fall back when needed to defend permitted the team to end the first half on a 0-0 tie.
