Electoral Board of ELECAM: Members Take Oath Of Office Today

The Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and members of the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon (those newly appointed and those who have had their mandate renewed), will today July 26, 2022 at the Constitutional Council take their oath of office. The event will be presided at by the President of the Constitutional Council, Clement Atangana.

The swearing-in ceremony is in accordance with Section 12(6) of the Electoral Code. The said provision of the Code highlights that before assuming office, members of the Electoral Board shall take an oath before the Constitutional Council, saying “I swear to fully and faithfully discharge my duties and to exercise my office without fear or favour in accordance with the Constitution and laws in force, to ensure the confidentiality of proceedings and votes, to abstain from taking public positions and to decline any consultation on matters falling within the purview of Elections Cameroon.”

Going by the oath, Members of the Electoral Board, comprising eighteen persons, including a Chairperson and Vice Chairperson, by virtue of the office they hold, are expected to be impartial in their different decisions. Today&rs...
