Cameroon-France : New Cooperation Lanes Traced

Agriculture, industry, digital economy, youth training… are innovative areas the two friendly countries intend to deepen partnership in for the good of their economies and peoples.

Cameroon and France have a lot to show as fruits of their partnership since establishing diplomatic ties at ambassadorial level in 1960. True to international cooperation which is almost always on win-win basis, leaders of the two friendly countries have pledged to open new horizons in line with global exigencies. This, in solidarity and mutual respect for each other. The 48-hour official visit of French Head of State to Cameroon (July 25-26, 2022) gave President Macron and his Cameroonian host, Paul Biya, the opportunity to have a careful evaluation of  their cooperation, its ups and downs thus far, as well as chart a way forward.
Earmarked Areas
Boosting agricultural productivity so as to ensure food-self-sufficiency and security for most, if not all, developing industrialization which has the propensity to create jobs and generate wealth, investing in human capital notably youth training as well as breaking still existing barriers to the blossoming of the digital economy are the new paths for Cameroon and France.
The Russia-Ukraine war has shown the vulnerability of the world; especially developing economies, to near total dependence on imports; sometimes to feed the population. This explains why Presidents Paul Biya and Emmanuel Macron have pledged to develop the agriculture sector which will not only feed the population, serve as a source of revenue through the exports earnings but as well be a solid supply source of raw materials to much-needed industrialization. France certainly has the expertise and Cameroon the natural resources; a combination of which can carry the vision to fruition in win-win cooperation.
All the identified cooperation areas are interwoven and must thus be wholly developed to reap the desired fruits. An opportunity for France to attempt winning back the lost territory in the competitive give-and-take international cooperation in which countries go for utmost gain.
Frank Talk!
One remarkable new face of Cameroon-France cooperation is the frankness with which each party expresses itself. Far from being the master-servant relationship hitherto perceived; rightly or wrongly, the two countries are increasingly underlining the need for solidarity in mutual respect and understanding. Obviously so as they are all sovereign  States governed by elected Presidents under a constitution and who are answerable to the people who elected them and not bilateral or multilateral partners. There could be proposals in times and areas of challenges but mutual respect obliges no bilateral partner worth the salt to give injunctions.
Each country has the autonomy...
