Promoting Peace : Traditional Rulers Coordinate Efforts

This was in course of a think tank group meeting to revitalise the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Cameroon on August 21, 2022.

Some members of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Cameroon, on August 22, 2022 met in Yaounde and brainstormed on revitalising the association as well as their role in the promotion of peace in the country. Convened by the Secretary General of the association, Senator Fon Chafah Isaac, he said the objective is to rejuvenate their association given the numerous security challenges in the country. “If traditional rulers all over the country can harmonise their efforts towards bringing peace, it will be very effective. This is because, when we meet, we share experiences. What obtains in the Far North Region may not necessary be what we are going through in the North West and South West Regions. So, when we meet, we share ideas and our focus is to see how we can bring a peaceful end to all the security challenges that the nation is going through in a collective manner although individuals at their various levels are doing their best,” the Secretary General noted.
Following the death of the pioneer President, the late Alim Hayatou, the association according to the Secretary General became comatose, hence the need to come together and bring it back to its feet. “Before our President passed away, our association was silent and after his death, there have been a long silence. I thought another person, most properly, the Vice President will take the responsibility to convene a meeting, but I realised that nobody is ready to do it, so as the Secretary General, I had to take the challenge. I am the one who conceived the idea, shared it and it was bought. So, if it collapsing, it is not out of place to find, still me, struggling to bring it back on its feet,” Senator Fon Chafah stated.
