Development of Border Areas : Stakeholders Examine Roadmap

A development roadmap for the border areas of the Littoral, South West, and North West regions was presented in Douala on Thursday, August 25, 2022.

Cameroon’s border areas are underdeveloped and fragile, and the government has been looking for means to make the situation better. Reasons why an inter-ministerial team, including a consultant, was put in place to do a need assessment of the border areas in the South West, North West and Littoral regions. To this effect, the result findings of the team were presented to the different stakeholders of the above regions on Thursday, August 25 in Douala.
It emerged from the consultative workshop that the job of the inter-ministerial team and the consultant was to make an inventory and diagnosis of the border areas, define the main axes of development, draw up the sub-programs for the development of the border regions, produce the document of the development program of the border areas and identify and propose a framework of implementation as well as modes of financing of the program.
After the presentation of the work done so far, it came to the limelight that the team did their job but much is still to be done. Stakeholders at the meeting held that the documents can only be validated after a revisit to the field and proper presentation of the findings.
