Why the reminder for employers to declare and register their domestic workers?
The reminder is necessary because after the call for employers to declare and register their domestic workers, many people are still using domestic workers without social protection as required by the law.  It is therefore important that those who recruit domestic workers respect the legal, social and moral obligations because like any other worker covered by the Labour Code, this category of people make up the majority of modest workers and are also entitled to social security coverage. Since the launch of the campaign, some 782 employers have declared and registered their domestic workers.  

What is supposed to be done to get domestic workers registered at the National Social Insurance Fund?
The employer and the domestic worker have a role to play. The employer is required to submit a registration application duly filled and signed by him/her, alongside a photocopy of the employer's national identity; the location plan of the place of employment and the list of domestic personnel. The domestic worker is required to download, fill and sign a registration application form which is found on National Social Insurance Fund website (www.cnps.cm);

The domestic worker, in addition, needs to submit the notice of hiring /termination of employment contract filled and sign by the employer; certified true copy of the birth certificate signed by the Civil Registrar or that of the National Identity card signed by a police officer. A declaration of honour for a worker who cannot provide the birth certificate plus a picture is also necessary. It is important to note that registration is done either directly online on the CNPS website or at any social security centre.
