Buea : Driver Dies Out Of Neglect

The melodrama that unfolded at the Fako Funeral Home (Mortuary) in Buea on Sunday September 4, 2022, at midday started earlier in Mabanda in Kumba along the Kumba-Mamfe highway.

Bate Peter Arrey, a ‘clando’ driver well known in Buea as Akwaya, was driving to Mamfe with full load and had an accident at Mabanda about 7 am. Those who arrived at the accident scene for rescue assumed Bate Peter Arrey and one other (owner of a popular hotel in Mamfe) dead while the four passengers other came out of the Toyota Avensis car unhurt. Bate Peter Arrey had no physical injury nor blood stains. The driver of the other vehicle got broken legs. The two cars had a head on collision.
The corpse of the Mamfe based hotel owner was taken to Mamfe while the corpse of Bate Peter Arrey was taken to Buea for preservation in the mortuary. Given that the deceased was a driver, the corpse had a brief stop at Kumba Bus Station, Mile 17 Bus Station in Buea and in front of Eta Palace Hotel (Mamfe Bus Station) which is the point where Bate Peter Arrey took off that morning. It is at the spot that vehicles in Buea take off for Mamfe. In all these stops, about 15 minutes each were spent for the corpse to be viewed by his colleagues who wept uncontrollably. Another stop was made in Bonduma where the vehicle carrying the corpse consumed fuel.
The corpse was finally taken straight to the Fako Funeral Home (Mortuary)...
