2022 Handball Cup of Cameroon : FANZ, FAP Winners

FANZ men and FAP women are the winners of the 2022 Handball Cup of Cameroon. The finals in both categories took place on Sunday September 18, 2022 at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex. Organised by the Cameroon Handball Federation (FECAHAND), the competition produced fireworks and was spiced by a grandiose ceremony graced by several dignitaries. The men’s just like the women’s final saw the Armed Forces and Police team (FAP) log horns with Fondation André Nziko (FANZ).
The men’s final was much more electrifying, full of pressure and tension. Neither FAP nor FANZ was ready to accept defeat making the game to last longer than expected. Knowing the stakes, the huge number of sanctions including several two minute suspensions for both sides tell of the intensity of physical contacts. Both sides had good combinations, flavoured with technics such as dive shots, dribbles, fake runs, give-and-goes amongst others. Their defence, attack and passes were equally top notch making regular playtime to end on a 21-21 tie. The overtime was decisive, as FANZ, thanks to their ability to concretise most of their attacking moves, were leading. But FAP stood up and began following FANZ back-to-back. Pressure further mounted and FAP equalised again at the end of overtime (24-24). Another brief overtime was imposed and produced the height of suspense.
