2022 Maracana AFCON: Côte d’Ivoire Wins 8thTitle

C ameroon has successfully hosted another international competition. This time, it is the 9th edition of the Maracana Africa Cup of Nations popular known in French as MARA’CAN 2022. The two-day competition which was officially opened by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi on September 23, 2022 at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex ended with Côte d’Ivoire clinching its eighth title. Côte d’Ivoire won the competition after beating Burkina Faso 2-1 on Saturday September 24, 2022 thanks to its experience. It should be said the Maracana sports discipline which could be termed a variant of football, is a team sport that is played in teams of 6 (six) players on the pitch, no goalkeeper, on a handball field, with a soccer ball (size 4) and a play time of 10×2. This year, Cameroon was eliminated in the group phase of the competition due to an inferior goal difference. Cameroon finished third in Group A with five points and a goal difference of 1 meanwhile Gabon with equal number of points ended second with a goal difference of 2.
