Cyber security/Cybercrime : Need To Secure State Data, Telecom Networks

These are some of the recommendations at the just-ended National Forum on cyber security and cyberspace in Cameroon.


Stakeholders in different telecommunications networks as well as ICT systems in Cameroon have resolved to ensure the protection of State infrastructure and data through an intensive awareness campaign for national cyberspace actors on the legislation in force in the area of cyber security and cybercrime. This is one of the recommendations at the 2nd National Forum on cyber security and the Fight against cybercrime (FNCC-2022) which ended on Friday October 14, 2022 in Yaounde.
During the forum, which took place from October 12 to 14 under the theme, “National Cyberspace and Responses to the Security Threat”, participants assessed cyber security threats and proposed strategic responses to counter cybercrime, explored opportunities and solutions which will consolidate policies, cyber security and the national cyber defence programme. Participants also resolved to put in place a regulatory framework sanctioning the activity of SIMBOXes while promoting a framework of collaboration between telecom operators. Regarding the procedures for the repression of offenses and the defence of national cyberspace, it was requested that a regulatory framework related to digital forensic activity; a structure dedicated to monitoring cyber security and accessing operators' databases should be set up. With regards to human capital and international cooperation in cyber security, it was proposed that Digital Law should be introduced into university training programme.
