North West PIC : Governance Lessons For Councils

Bamenda III and Balikumbat Councils were recently drilled on the role of the Public Independent Conciliator in promoting rights and freedoms.

The independent and impartial authority of the Public Independent Conciliator (PIC) in handling issues, abuses and conflicts arising from the functioning of decentralised entities in the North West Region has been explained and embraced by Councillors of the Bamenda III and Balikumbat Councils.
The merits of the PIC institution were the subject of a colleague’s sensitisation and education event that took a team from the Office of the PIC to the Bamenda III and Balikumbat Councils on October 20th and 21st 2022. Reacting to be presentations during a Bamenda III Council session, the Mayor, Fongu Cletus acknowledged the importance of the PIC in times like this. He appreciated the role of the PIC in amicably settling disputes. 
Elsewhere, during the Balikumbat Council session chaired by His Majesty, Bah Gahnyamnyin III, the visiting PIC team featured presentations on the legal framework, procedures to lodge complaints and core values of the institution.
