Cameroon-Jamaica Friendly : 26 Local players Selected

They are expected to begin camping on November 2, 2022 ahead of the World Cup test match billed for November 9, 2022 in Yaounde.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will play a friendly match against Jamaica on November 9, 2022 in preparation for the World Cup in Qatar. It is against this backdrop that the Head Coach of the Indomitable Lions, Rigobert Song, made public, on October 29, 2022, a list of 26 players for the encounter. They are expected to begin camping on November 2, 2022 in Yaounde. The particularity of this list is that it is made up of only home-based players. None of these players featured in the first two World Cup friendlies against Uzbekistan and South Korea. This may be justified by the fact that a majority of the players plying their trade abroad are busy with club duties and the November 9 match does not fall within the official preparatory period before the World Cup.
It should be recalled that Cameroon, as well as the other 31 countries qualified for the World Cup had until October 21, 2022 to submit their first list of preselected players (between 35-55 maximum) to the World Football Governing body (FIFA). The lists were not officially made public but hints have it that Coach Rigobert Song may have sent the name of one or more than one local players to FIFA. Given that the countries are expected to pick their final list of 26 players from the shortlist sent to the World Football Governing body, Coach Rigobert Song may want to be using the friendly against Jamaica to test the local player or players that he might have integrated in the list at FIFA.
Whatever be the case, attention will evidently be diverted to a forward like Marou Souaibou who emerged Cameroon’s ballon d’or in the award ceremony held on October 29, 2022 in Yaounde. His team-mate Patient Wassou, will be another area of concern as he won the award ...
