Limbe Deep Sea Port : Sensitisation Campaigns For Population Ongoing

Discussions aim at enlightening the communities involved about the processing of the port and also to listen to their worries.

Due to rumours, misconceptions and doubts circulating with regard to the Limbe Deep Sea Port project, the Port Authority of Limbe has hired a communication expert, to enlighten the population in the communities involved about the process of the port and to listen to their worries. Against this backdrop, the Port Authority organised meetings with the population of the seven villages involved in the Seaport Complex that is Ngeme, Tiko, Idenua, Bakingili, Down Beach, Bota and Cape Limboh. The port that had been promised to these communities since 1983 is currently in the process of construction.
According to the Communication Expert, Dr Julius Che Tita, the sensitisation campaign seeks to delimit and secure the sites of the Port Authority of Limbe. He explained that it is a question and answer session between the villagers and the port management. Before meeting with the population, the Senior Divisional Officer for Fako held a meeting with the local authorities of the areas involved, to put in place a commission and to identify and secure the lands that will be involved in the port construction. A meeting with the Port Authority and the local population of Ngeme and Limbola took place recently at the Ngeme and Limbola Community Halls respectively. The local population of Ngeme was told that 20 hectares of their land are needed for the project, and if any land was marked off by the government, it was for experts committed to this project to evaluate the property and assess how much could be given as compensation and channel the reports back to the government for them to see if they can afford this property or not.  
The Port Director, Molungu Ndive, used the meetings to tell the villagers of the benefits of having the Seaport in their locality.
