South West : Slow But Steady Execution Underway

The South West people in a evaluation meeting on November 4, 2022 suggested that the Limbe Deep Seaport be urgently incorporated into the reconstruction and development plan.

The reconstruction of North West and South West Regions amid the current socio-political crisis has been the option of government since 2020 with the creation of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West Regions. 
This plan, sufficiently sensitized, has met one major impediment, that of continual insecurity on the ground. Meanwhile, the powers that be had intended to reconstruct the structures brought down by violent fighters such as schools, hospitals, homes, destroyed tarred road portions, State offices, bridges and other symbols of State authority.  The projects earmarked for such reconstruction would rekindle development and permit the Regions concerned to regain the level of development of other Regions of Cameroon. The plan was criticized by some quarters as too early to begin because of the raging fighting still observed on the ground. This is why the promoters of the project, explained that the conception of the plan foresaw that work was to begin in peaceful areas styled as “green zones” and progressively extend to violent localities also called “red zones”.  The reconstruction was equally designed to move with reconciliation efforts for peace to resume.
The fourth session (July 8, 2022) in Yaounde reviewing work already done on the ground in the framework of the plan staged Minister Delegate Paul Tasong, the then National Coordinator of the Plan to reveal that some 7, 000 pupils and students of Primary and secondary schools have regained classrooms in some 30 rehabilitated schools and 20 other centres in the two affected regions.
